House lawmakers have voted to support a 2019-20 General Fund budget that continues a multi-year effort to hold the line on taxes, fees and spending. Total state spending would be set at $33.997 billion, a 1.8% increase over the current fiscal year, which is in line with the rate of inflation. The plan provides for a record level of spending on education and includes a deposit of more than $250 million into the Rainy-Day Fund, the state’s primary “savings account.” Rep. Gov. Tom Wolf unveiled his 2019-2020 state budget proposal on Tuesday in Harrisburg. The $34.15 billion spending plan represents a nearly 1 billion dollar increase in state spending over last year. House Republicans said the Commonwealth should be focused on controlling spending and the education and development of our workforce..

More than 100 Boy Scouts and leaders from across the state gathered in Harrisburg on May 1 to celebrate the first-ever Boy Scout Day at the Capitol. A report on the state of scouting in the Commonwealth was presented to Sen. Majority Whip John Gordner and Speaker of the House Mike Turzai. The Boy Scouts are required to annually present such a report to the President of the United States and Congressional leaders. Several other states have received this type of formal presentation, but this was the first time an event like this was held in Pennsylvania. Sen. John Gordner and Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (Northumberland & Snyder) were happy to organize and sponsor this gathering.

The Governor unveiled his 2018-19 state budget proposal before a joint session of the Pennsylvania House and Senate in Harrisburg on Tuesday. The Governor’s plan calls for $33 Billion in state spending, approximately $1 Billion more than the Commonwealth spent last year.

Governor Tom Wolf delivered his annual budget address before a joint session of Pennsylvania’s House and Senate on Tuesday in Harrisburg. The Governor proposed a $32.3 billion spending plan with no new major taxes for the upcoming fiscal year. House Republicans were encouraged by the Governor’s decision to work with lawmakers to explore several cost-saving measures in order to balance the budget.

The 101st Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show is ongoing this week in Harrisburg with record crowds expected to be on hand to view the largest agricultural exposition on the east coast. The event showcases Pennsylvania’s largest production industry – agriculture, and offers hundreds of farmers and others involved in agriculture an opportunity to exhibit their products and compete for prizes.
